Family access
The Theatre Royal welcomes families
We actively encourage parents/guardians and their children to come to the Theatre and performances for family audiences are regularly presented.
In addition we can offer a family toilet, booster cushions for young children and we also plan to offer children's menus in the Greene Room prior to family shows such as the pantomime.
The Theatre also promotes a wide-ranging programme of opportunities for young people to become actively involved in theatre and other arts programmes. Click here for more information.
Advisory notes
We have no formal policy on admitting very young children to performances but prefer to rely on the consideration of their parents and guardians. Just as we ask audience members to switch off their mobile phones and watch alarms so as not to spoil the enjoyment of other audience members, so we would ask parents and guardians to be similarly considerate towards other audience members when bringing young children to the Theatre.
Advisory note to parents and guardians: the Theatre Royal cannot accept responsibility for the safety of unaccompanied children between the ages of 8 and 16 attending a performance either at the Theatre or The Guildhall. Children under the age of 8 should be accompanied by a responsible adult. (This does not apply to workshop, unless otherwise stated, which are always led by suitably qualified staff.) Where an age guidance for a performance is given, this is the lowest age for which the company suggests their production is suitable. If you would like more information on age suitability for a specific performance, especially upper age guidance, please contact the Box Office.
