Guided Tours and Open Doors

There are a variety of ways to explore and discover the Theatre's fascinating past.

Please note that due to the Theatre's performance and rehearsal schedule, it will not always be possible for tours and Open Doors sessions to take place. You are strongly advised to check in advance with the Box Office.

Guided Tours

Join one of our guided tours and discover why the Theatre Royal is one of the most significant theatre buildings in Europe. Highly entertaining, our tours provide a fascinating and lively introduction. You may even be able to eavesdrop on conversations between characters associated with the Theatre's early history.

Guided tours take place on the following days*:

Tuesdays 2pm
Thursdays 2pm
Saturdays 11am
Sundays 11am

Tours last approximately one hour and twenty minutes. Please book your tour in advance through the Theatre Royal Box Office, tel: 01284 769505. The cost is £6 per person (£5 for Friends of the Theatre Royal and National Trust members).

* Please always check with the Box Office for any schedule changes due to performances and rehearsals at the Theatre.

Group Tours

Organised groups wishing to take a tour outside of the published tour times should contact grouptours@theatreroyal.org or 01284 829957. Visit our Group Tours page for further details of different events, workshops and talks we can arrange for groups.

Open Doors

If you would prefer to take a more leisurely look around the Theatre, visit us during one of our regular Open Door sessions. Admission to all Open Doors is £1.50 and free to National Trust members. No advance booking required but please check with the Box Office for any schedule changes due to performances or rehearsals.

The Theatre will be open* to the public at the following times:

Tuesdays 2pm - 4pm
Thursdays 2pm - 4pm
Saturdays 10.30am - 1pm
Sundays 10.30am - 1pm
