As well as playing host to many of the country's leading performers and companies, the Theatre Royal also produces and tours its own productions to theatres across the UK.
In recent years the Theatre has produced and/or toured three main productions each year.

Theatre Royal Rural Tour
A small-scale (2 or 3 hander) production touring to village halls and small venues within the Theatre's catchment area. Recent productions have included:

National middle-scale tour
Usually taking place during the Autumn, a classic piece of drama has been produced in-house, played in Bury St Edmunds and then toured to middle-scale theatres across the UK. Recent productions have included:
Spring 2010 - Cider with Rosie by Laurie Lee, adapted by Daniel O'Brien, directed by Colin Blumenau
Autumn 2005 - Sherlock Holmes: The Athenaeum Ghoul by Carl Miller, directed by Colin Blumenau
Autumn 2004 - The Tempest by William Shakespeare, directed by Colin Blumenau
Autumn 2003 - Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennesee Williams, directed by Colin Blumenau
Christmas pantomime
In recent years, the Theatre's annual Christmas production has been produced in-house. During the restoration period, the pantomime was transferred to a spectacular Big Top setting in Nowton Park in Bury St Edmunds. Recent productions have included:

Other productions and collaborations
In addition to the above, the Theatre has been highly successful in forging new creative partnerships. In October 2007 the Theatre played host to a production of Henry Purcell's semi-opera King Arthur, the third in a series of collaborations with the Goethe Theater in Bad Lauchstädt, Germany. Other co-production partners in recent years have included the Theatre Royal in Richmond, North Yorkshire, the Belgrade Theatre Coventry and the Northcott Theatre Exeter.
